Azerbaijani gymnast Marina Durunda has advanced to the finals in the ball exercises at the FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Baku July 22.

Durunda scored 18.450 points, ranking fifth during the qualification event.

She scored 16.550 points in hoop exercises.

Another Azerbaijani athlete Zhala Piriyeva scored 17.200 points in ball exercises, ranking 13th during the qualification event.

She scored 17.550 points in hoop exercises and became the reserve gymnast for the final.

Thus, Durunda ranks tenth in the all-around competitions following the performances with two items, while Piriyeva shares the eleventh-twelfth places with the US gymnast Camilla Feeley.

Russian gymnasts Margarita Mamun (38.400 points), Yana Kudryavtseva (38.300 points) and Alexandra Soldatova (37.950 points) are in the lead in all-round competitions, followed by the gymnasts from France, Italy, Israel, Bulgaria and Finland.

The gymnasts will compete in clubs and ribbon exercises July 23. The medalists in all-round competitions will be named following the exercises.

The FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics will last until July 24, giving a unique opportunity to watch the performances of eminent gymnasts from 17 countries two weeks prior to the Rio Olympics.

Twenty-six gymnasts and 9 teams will compete for medals in the all-around on the first two days of competitions. Apparatus finals will be held on the event’s last day.
