By Ilhama Isabalayeva – Trend:

Azerbaijan intends to establish a national anti-doping agency, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Youth and Sports of the country Fuad Muradov said.

He made the remarks Oct. 24 at the meeting of the committee.

He said that currently anti-doping measures become stricter in the world.

“The World Anti-Doping Agency has imposed a ban on the use of more than 7,000 drugs,” Muradov said. “The athletes taking these medications are immediately excluded from the competition. If this repeatedly takes place three times, a ban is imposed on an athlete’s participation in international competitions.”

“This is an important condition for each country,” he added. “

Azerbaijan follows these conditions. Anti-doping commission of the country’s ministry of youth and sports operates, athletes pass doping control.”

The head of the parliamentary committee noted that the new draft law “On combating the use of doping substances in sport” is ready for the first reading in Azerbaijan’s Parliament.

In accordance with this bill, it is planned to establish a national anti-doping agency. It is proposed to create a board of appeal and arbitration at the agency.

Azerbaijani Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov, who spoke at the meeting of the parliamentary committee, said that this structure will be created in accordance with the requirements of international sports organizations.

“The new structure will be recognized by the international sports organizations and anti-doping agencies, and it will work closely with them,” said the minister.
