Stoffel Vandoorne of the McLaren-Honda F1 team said at a press conference in Baku June 22 that he and a fellow pilot, Fernando Alonso, may lose 15 positions each on the starting grid of the 2017 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
This may happen due to a penalty because both pilots’ cars will have new MGU-H (Motor Generator Unit-Heat) installed, he added.
Vandoorne noted that he, just like Alonso, will probably face a penalty for replacing the engine of his F1 car, so they will probably be competing for places in the bottom-row of the starting grid.
Vandoorne added that he doesn’t think there will be a lot of new details in the engine, so its power won’t increase much.
The 2017 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix will be held in Baku on June 23-25.
