AZERI CHESS PLAYERS NOW FIFTH

Following his game in a draw with the Dutch grand master, Sergey Tivyakov, and a victory over a German chess-player, Arkadiy Naydich, in the seventh round of the European Chess Championship in Warsaw, Poland, Teymur Rajabov, an Azerbaijani grand master,
with 6.0 points now ranks 5 in the table. The list is led by a young Ukrainian grand master, Sergey Karyakin, who holds 7.0 points. He is followed by Romanian sportsman who scored 6.5 points.

Over the past 2 tournaments two Azerbaijani players вЂ" Shahriyar Mammadyarov and Gadir Husseynov - corrected their positions in the rating list. In the seventh round they both played with the white defeated Nyurbak and Stevich respectively. Now they both hold 5.0 points of possible 8 and occupy the 30th and 43rd places. Namig Guliyev, an international chess player from Azerbaijan, went up (+1) after defeating Tsermiadianos (Greece) in the 8th round. He scored 4.5 points and ranks 91. Rauf Mammadov and Sarkhan Guliyev hold 4.0 points each. Husseynov and Ibrahimov hold 3.5 points.

In the ninth round Rajabov will have to play with the black with the most solid Romanian chess player Nisipeanu.
