The Government of Azerbaijan will approve a total of 100 billion manats (21.2 million U.S. dollars) in funding for the realization of the state program on the provision of schools of general education with necessary equipment and appliances.

Following the announcement, Farzali Gadirov, an official with the Ministry of Education, told Trend that the Government had already allocated 10 billion manats (2.12 million U.S. dollars) for the current year.

According to Gadirov, the objective of the program is to provide schools with four major appliances вЂ" (school) desks, blackboards, teacher’s desks and pupil’s seats. There is lack of 300,000 units of school desks, 45,000 blackboards and 110,000 teacher’s desks and pupil’s seats in schools of secondary education all over the country.

“The budgetary means the Ministry (of Education) gets year on year are not enough to meet this requirement, while the problem is possible to get fully addressed in the framework of the above state program to be implemented in 2005 to 2009,” Gadirov explained.
