(РљР°vkaz-Press) вЂ" The excessive pollution of the Mtkvari river (Kura) threatens not only Georgia, but also Azerbaijan, this was stated at the meeting of the city commission on integration and public relations of Georgia, where the issue of flowing off the polluted waters in Mtkvari had been discussed.
В"The river’s waters are polluted not only by dirty waters, but also drainage waters from hospitals for infectious diseases and clinics, which threatens by epidemics, as the water does not undergo filtration”, the commission’s chairwoman, Nino Mirianashvili stated.
She expressed a special concern over the fact, that the water of extremely polluted Kura is used for drinking by population in the neighbouring Azerbaijan. В"Aggravation of relations with this country threatens us, as the waters of Kura are being contaminated mostly on our territory”, she noted, having underlined, that it is better to take measures now, then pay penalties later.
The project of the Scientific Technical Centre has been presented at the meeting. It offers a new system for water purification, which is not connected with large expenses and may be used by city authorities. These water treatment plants must be, first, installed in clinics and hospitals. It is inadmissible, when waters from the infectious clinics, oncological center, center on fight AIDS and venereal diseases flow into the river without filtration”, the meeting’s participants noted.
