DRAFT STATE PROGRAM FOR STRUGGLE WITH TB SUBMITTED TO GOVERNMENT

The draft state program for struggle with tuberculosis was submitted to the government, the Health Ministry told Trend.

After consideration of the draft program by appropriate bodies it will be presented to the Azerbaijani President. The state program envisages organization of some events in order to increase the state attention and care to TB-diseased people, provide them with modern and high quality treatment, free medicine.

The draft program attaches special attention to the struggle with tuberculosis in the penitentiary systems and military units. The draft program provides construction of new specialized hospitals for prisoners, improvement of the medical personnel of the hospitals. The draft program is expected to be adopted till late 2005.

According to the official data, 6,000 TB-diseased people were registered in Azerbaijan, or 46 TB-diseased people fall to every 100,000 persons. It is the lowest figure for the last 4 years. 4085 of TB-diseased people were revealed in 2004 with 3673 in the civil sector and 412 in the penitentiary system, the Health Ministry said.

The number of lethal outcomes comprised 340, 246 last year, i.e 4 deaths fell to every 100,000 people.
