Human rights activists can suspend its activities in the working group on human rights, Chingiz Ganizada, a member of the working group, told Trend.

According to Ganizada, members of the group delay the next meeting. Ganizada noted that the meeting earlier scheduled for 22 July, then re-scheduled for early August was postponed due to MPs’ preparations for the parliamentary elections. “The campaign on collection of signatures will last from 4 to 5 days and delay of the meeting is unclear.

We, human rights defenders, protest against groundless delay. If the meeting is not called next week, the Monitoring group of human rights defenders will express it position in regard to the issue,” Ganizada noted.

“The representatives of the government are not strongly interested in the implementation of the concrete work by the working group as the summer session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) is over”, he added.

According to Ganizada, the activities of the working group will live up on the eve of the autumn session of the PACE. “If the meeting of the group is not resumed in short, the human rights defenders will be able postpone its activities,” he noted .
