MATSUURA: РђZERBAIJAN WILL BECOME UNESCO MAIN PARTNER IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATION

Аzerbaijan is ready for comprehensive cooperation with UNESCO, the UNESCO Good Will Ambassador, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva stated on 24 August in Baku at the conference “UNESCO- Azerbaijan: bridge in future”, Trend reports.

A special place in bilateral cooperation must take the cooperation in the educational field, she considers. According to her, the government of Azerbaijan pays a great attention to the improvement of the national system of education, its compliance with the world standards and in this respect it collaborates closely with UNESCO.

Mehriban Aliyeva informed the foreign guests, participants of the conference of the projects implemented by the Foundation, targeted at the development of education in the country.

The UNESCO Good Will Ambassador drew the attention of the conference’s participants to the sore problems of Azerbaijan вЂ" the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the problem of education for children from the occupied by Armenians territories of Azerbaijan.

В"Рђzerbaijan will become the UNESCO main partner in the sustainable development field”, The UNESCO Director General Koishiro Matsuura stated at the conference.

Addressing the conference with participation of the Azerbaijan’s government officials, representatives of international structures and the teaching public of the country, Matsuura expressed his satisfaction with the present level of cooperation with Azerbaijan, having noted the intention of this international organization to expand more this cooperation.

Underlying the availability of problems in the educational system of Azerbaijan, Matsuura stated, once they are not solved, in future they will affect negatively the country’s economic development.

The major educational problems in the country are related to the lack of modern methods of teaching, information technologies, problems in the staff training, Matsuura considers.

According to him, UNESCO will assist Azerbaijan in planning the new strategy, management and etc. В"The aid rendered to Azerbaijan by UNESCO will be more specific and targeted”, the UNESCO Director General stressed.
