VATICAN EAGER TO EXPAND CO-OP WITH AZERBAIJAN

Vatican is eager to develop cooperation with Azerbaijan, Sheik-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazada, the chairman of he Caucasus Clerical Board, said in a meeting with the Cardinal of Vatican Kreschentsev Sepe, in Baku on Monday.

According to Sepe, during the visit to Azerbaijan he witnessed the atmosphere of friendship, fraternity and tolerance. В"We have a will to expand the relationships with Azerbaijan, while my visit to Azerbaijan among other South Caucasus also testify for it,В" the cardinal stated.

It is necessary to do too much for the strengthening the bilateral relationships, in particular, through a dialogue of friendship and fraternity to achieve peace and stability in the region, he noted. Sepe voiced his hope that he activities of the Catholic Church in Azerbaijan will serve to this
idea.

Reminding of the visit of former head of Rome Catholic Church John Paul II to Azerbaijan, he noted his peaceable position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and voiced his satisfaction that the current visit of Benedict XVI will adhere the same policy

Azerbaijan remains loyal to principle of tolerant state, where different religious confessions live in good neighboring relations, the leaders of different events attending the event said According to Father Alexander, the head of the Baku and Caspian Eparchy, tolerance is a positive peculiarity of Azerbaijani people and government.
