Azerbaijan and Stavropol Territory signed an agreement on trade and economic, scientific and technical, as well as cultural cooperation April 28.

From the Azerbaijani side the agreement was signed by Deputy Prime-Minister Ali Hasanov, and from Stavropol Territory by governor Valery Gajewski.

"Azerbaijan and Stavropol Territory have great potential for cooperation in agro-industrial complex, construction, resort and health sphere and tourism, and I hope that Stavropol businessmen will expand their activities in Azerbaijan in these spheres," Hasanov said.

According to Valery Gajewski, as a result of implementation of the intergovernmental agreement Stavropol and Azerbaijan's regions will be much closer to each other.

In 2009, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia amounted to $1.816 billion, hitting over 60 percent of total trade turnover with CIS countries.

Foreign trade turnover with Stavropol amounted to $123.3 million last year and exceeds the figure for 2004 twice. Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Stavropol in 2009 reduced by 30 percent. In 2008 turnover amounted to over $200 million.

Today about 15,000 Azerbaijanis live in Stavropol.
