Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 6 / Trend E.Ismayilov /

The Baku Sea Port currently located in the center of Baku will be transferred after the completion of the first phase of the new international port in the Alat settlement, a source in the Azerbaijani transport sector said.

The source said the first phase of the new port's construction will be completed in 2014.
"The current port will be moved once construction is complete," the source said.

Construction began in November 2010. The port is situated 65 kilometers south of Baku in the Alat settlement.

The port will be constructed in three stages and completed by 2015. The first stage envisages the construction of two bridges for ferry boats, three freight bridges for containers, Ro-Ro ships and simple (universal) dry cargo ships. The second stage envisages the construction of three other freight bridges. The third stage envisages the construction of two additional freight bridges. The project is worth over $400 million. After the port is finished, its capacity will be 11.6 million tons of cargo.
The port will be multimodal as it will create a free economic zone and logistics center.
