AZAL Vice President: Azerbaijan to commission new airport terminal in mid-2013

Construction of a new airport terminal in the territory of the Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku will be completed in mid-2013, CJSC Azerbaijani Airlines Vice President Sabir Ilyasov told Trend.

"At present, active work is underway to construct the new complex and they will be completed in mid-2013," Ilyasov said.

As another source said earlier, according to the plans, the new airport terminal is expected to be commissioned in May 2013.

The new airport terminal, with a complex area of 58,000 square meters, will serve 3 million passengers. The four-story building will be built in the shape of a triangle.

The new terminal will have 18 escalators and 20 elevators and will house the latest technological advances used in international aviation. Passenger services will be organized at the highest international standards, applying the most advanced equipment to ensure maximum safety demands. The new complex will be able to receive eight aircrafts simultaneously.

The runway at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport will be 4,000 meters long and 75 meters wide.
