Within the next month, the Baku Taxi Company will install 500 multi-purpose POS-terminals manufactured by VeriFone in its 500 fleet of London Taxi TX4 cars, the head of the company Ilgar Gasimov told Trend on Tuesday. 500 POS-terminals have been ordered initially.

New multi-purpose terminals will be installed in every company car operating in Baku within the month, he said.

"Terminal installation is carried out in order to simplify the payment process when using the services of our cars," he added.

Payments via the new terminals can be made using magnetic, chip and sensor plastic cards. In future the new system will enable payments to be made using multi-purpose cards that can be used for all forms of public transport.

Terminals will be installed in the 500 London Taxi TX4 cars that will arrive in mid-March Mr Gasimov added.

The new private Baku Taxi Company was created to develop a programme for the Ministry of Transport of Azerbaijan on the replacement of the Baku taxi park with London Taxi TX4 cars.

Agreement to supply these taxis is with Shanghai LTI (a joint venture of Manganese Bronze Holdings PLC and Chinese car manufacturer Geely Automobile Holdings Limited) and is the largest contract for the London - based company, the cost of which amounted to $27 million.
