Uzbek and Chinese FMs confirm intention to develop cooperation

Uzbek and Chinese foreign ministers Abdulaziz Kamilov and Yang Jeichi at a meeting in Beijing confirmed their intention to develop cooperation between their two countries over the entire spectrum of relations, a source in the government circles of the republic told Trend on Friday.

Abdulaziz Kamilov, heading an Uzbek delegation, arrived in Beijing to attend the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers - SCO member states starting on Friday. The foreign ministers of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will attend.

During the meeting, both ministers discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on international and regional issues of common interest.

Uzbek Foreign Minister said that bilateral relations of friendship, cooperation and partnership have rapidly developed and brought fruitful results thanks to the joint efforts of both sides.

Uzbekistan attaches great importance to relations with China and is ready to make efforts to comprehensively intensify mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields to raise the bilateral relations of friendship, cooperation and partnership to a qualitatively new level, Kamilov said.

His Chinese counterpart confirmed the readiness of the Chinese side to fully implement the agreements on a broad range of issues achieved by the two countries to achieve a new, larger phase of the Chinese-Uzbek relations.

At present, China is Uzbekistan's third trade partner, the first country in the number of investors and buyers of cotton and suppliers of communication and reclamation equipment.

According to the Uzbek Statistics Agency, the volume of Uzbek-Chinese trade turnover increased by 20 per cent up to $2.6 billion in 2011 compared to 2010.

At present, the volume of Chinese investments into Uzbekistan's economy has made more than $4 billion.

There are about 400 enterprises established with the participation of Chinese capital in Uzbekistan. Their activities are carried out in the energy, transport, communication, engineering, industrial and construction, agricultural and financial fields.
