Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Turkey to introduce single tariff for transportation of goods by rail

Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Turkey will introduce a single tariff for transportation of goods within the project Silk Wind, the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan told Trend on Thursday.

"The use of a unified through tariff is one of the key issues in the creation of a competitive route. Main task of the working groups on the project, among other organizational issues, is elaboration of the definition of agreed tariff as well as the conventional route parameters, allowing to provide the transparency of the tariff policy to create a confidential dialogue with the business and provide relevant advertising of the train for the potential customers," the ministry said.

According to the ministry, the proposed measures to simplify customs clearance procedures of Silk Wind train were discussed in October this year in Azerbaijan during the first meeting of Turkic states' customs services heads.

Launching of the project Silk Wind will be possible after the completion of construction and reconstruction of the railway line Baku-Tbilisi-Kars.

Earlier, the President of CJSC Azerbaijan Railways Arif Askerov told Trend, that the project Baku-Tbilisi-Kars will be fully commissioned in 2014.

The project Silk Wind was initiated in the framework of TRACECA.

According to the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan the project objective is the creation of a multimodal transport route trains (container / ro-ro) with the preliminary exchange of information between customs authorities and rail operators of participating countries.

"The creation of the necessary conditions simplification of administrative procedures in the frame of the project will increase the volume of trade and economic cooperation, improve transportation and logistics capabilities and increase the freight in transport corridors of the participating countries," the statement said.
