Ernst & Young's Tax & Law department held a tax and HR breakfast in the Sharg Ballroom of the JW Marriott Absheron Baku hotel on 7 December 2012. This seminar was delivered by Ernst & Young's qualified tax and HR specialists from the Baku and Kiev offices.

The presentation was focused on the recent changes made to tax, customs and other legislation in 2012, and expected changes as of 2013. In addition, the session covered detailed information on interesting aspects of recent tax audits and litigation trends in Azerbaijan.

During the second half of the seminar, Arzu Hajiyeva, Ernst & Young Tax & Law Partner, and HR specialists from Ernst & Young's Kiev office focused on the salary survey reports for 2012 which were recently issued by Ernst & Young as a result of the Compensation and Benefits Survey in Azerbaijan. In addition to this, detailed information on human capital-related training opportunities and mini-MBA programs in human capital offered by Ernst & Young in the CIS was presented. The culmination of the interactive part of the event was a lottery of various prizes for salary survey participants.

This seminar is organized on annual basis and hosts a number of Finance Directors, Chief Accountants, Tax Advisors, and Tax and HR Managers from major local and multinational companies operating in Azerbaijan.

Based on interviews with seminar participants Esmira Mehdiyeva from SOCAR, Stella Aliyeva from Fairmont Baku, Akper Ibrahimov from Pasha Holding LLC, Vadim Osadchiy from BP Exploration Caspian Sea Ltd, Lali Alizade from KBR, attendees were grateful, liked the presentations and appreciated the work done by Ernst & Young to organize and host the event. Some said that it would be good to see the changes currently under consideration discussed as well. Ernst & Young will take this into account when organizing future seminars.
