Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 7 / Trend, E. Ismayilov /

Operations within the first phase of the new international sea trade port construction in Azerbaijan will be completed in 2014, a source close to the project told Trend today.

Earlier, operations within the first phase of the project were to be completed by late 2013.

"Operations are slightly delayed, but taking into account that the project is large enough, this delay is insignificant," the source said.

The source said that despite slight postponement in the first stage completion date, operations are being conducted rapidly.

The source said the construction of the port will be fully completed in 2015.

The construction of a new international port was launched in November of 2010. It is located 65 kilometers away from Baku in Alat village.

The construction of a new international sea port in Alat village will be divided into 3 stages. The first stage provides construction of two ferry and 3 cargo berths for containers, 'ro ro' vessels and conventional bulk carriers. The second stage entails the construction of 3 more cargo berths, the third- construction of 2 additional cargo berths. The port will be able to receive up to 11.6 million tons of goods.
