In the near future Azerbaijan and Russia will begin to consolidate the state border with boundary marks.

This was stated by chairman of the Azerbaijani State Land and Cartography Committee Garib Mammadov during his speech at an expanded committee meeting on Friday.

"Azerbaijan and Russia have held the delimitation of the 390 kilometres long state border and the parliaments of the two countries ratified the treaty on the state border. The countries will soon begin to consolidate the border," Mammadov said.

He said work has not been completed on delimitation of the border with Georgia. Experts of the two countries meet regularly and carry out relevant measurements of the border strip. A 280 kilometre long section of the 480 kilometre long border has been agreed by the state commissions of the two countries.

"In addition, Azerbaijani and Iranian experts are involved in shore protection works and also in border demarcation," Mammadov said.

He said the committee members are also engaged in work on determining the legal status of the Caspian Sea and its division into sectors. As of today, sectors of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Russia have been identified.
