"Kazatomprom" has begun its "Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund" program for the liquidation of all non-essential assets, including social nets, the report of the company shared on Tuesday says.
Consequently all Kazatom enterprises that are not directly involved in the realization of the company's main activities are to either be sold or gratuitously transferred to competing entities and local authorities in East Kazakhstan, South Kazakhstan and Kyzylorda provinces.
As announced in the report, the wide scale transfer program aims to bring production closer to Western corporate standards. According to "Samruk-Kazyna" JSC NWFАО, services needed for the implementation of the company's core activities can be attracted from the market.
Completion of the withdrawal of non-core assets is scheduled for 2013.
JSC NАО Kazatomprom is the national operator of Kazakhstan for the export of uranium and uranium compounds, rare metals, nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants, special equipment, technologies and materials with dual purposes. Its main activities are geological exploration, the extraction of uranium, the manufacturing of products involved in the nuclear fuel cycle and construction materials as well as power industry, science, social security and personnel training.
