Azerbaijan expects growth in tourist visits by up to 70-80 per cent over the next five to six years, Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfaz Garayev said at the opening of the Tourism and Travel exhibition (AITF-2013) on Thursday.

He said that some 2.5 million foreign citizens visited the country in 2012. This index will increase in the future.

"The issuance of an electronic visa which has been in use in Azerbaijan since March 2013 contributes to the growth of the tourist flow," minister said.

The Azerbaijan international exhibition 'Tourism and Travel' AITF 2013 will be held in Baku on April 4-6. It will be organised by Iteca Caspian and İTE Group PLC.

The exhibition involves 251 companies from 35 countries. Tour operators from Montenegro, Thailand, Tunisia, Canada, Morocco and Monaco are attending the exhibition for the first time. Turkey, Georgia, the Czech Republic and the UAE are amongst the traditional guests.

The exhibition will present a wide range of tourist services during the three days. The main sections of the exhibition include airlines and air agencies, tour operators and travel agencies and hotels and resorts. An innovation is the 'Property abroad' section.
