An employee of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Taxes has joined the updated structure of UN Committee of experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters, the ministry reported on Tuesday.

An employee of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Taxes has joined the updated structure of UN Committee of experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters, the ministry reported on Tuesday.

The committee, that functions under the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) comprises around 25 experts from various parts of the world. In the next four years, an expert from Azerbaijan - Ulvi Yusifov, the Head of International Treaties division of Taxes Ministry's International Affairs Department will also work at the committee. Thus, Azerbaijan becomes the second member of the committee from the CIS region after Russia.

The competence of ECOSOC includes viewing international economic and social problems, as well as environmental issues. ECOSOC was founded in 1946 in accordance with the UN Charter as a central forum for discussing such problems and working out political recommendations.

In accordance with its large mandate, ECOSOC is responsible for using almost 70 percent of human and financial resources of the whole UN system, including the activity of 14 specialised agencies, nine 'functional' commissions and five regional ones.
