Total assets of Georgian commercial banks increase

In July 2013, the total assets of Georgian commercial banks increased by 127.2 million laris (0.9 percent) and amounted to 15.1 billion laris ($1 = 1.66 lari) compared with the previous month.

In July the banking sector's own funds amounted to 2.6 billion laris, which is equal to 17.5 percent of the total assets, Georgia's National Bank told Trend on Friday.

As of August 1, the Georgian banking sector is presented by some 20 commercial banks, 16 out of these - with the participation of foreign capital in the authorized capital, and two branches of foreign banks.

The participation of foreign capital in the total authorized capital amounted to 74.2 percent.

Net profit for July was 39.3 million laris.

The share of the five largest banks in total assets was 79 percent.
