The Baku-Astara highway (towards Iran) will be fully commissioned in 2016, the Deputy Transport Minister Musa Panahov told journalists on Tuesday.

According to him, changing the direction of the road will allow traffic to circumvent big cities.
"Construction will reduce the road by about 40 kilometers, and will provide safer and faster traffic," Panahov stressed.

Part of the Alat-Astara (Alat-Masalli) highway at a length of 112 kilometers is already under construction with a loan from the World Bank and Azerbaijani government funds. The remaining part of the road (Masalli-Astara) AT a length over 60 kilometers is being built with Asian Development Bank funds.
