Managing director of the Iran's Melli Bank, Farshad Heydari has been removed from his position by the Bank's Association, Tasnim news portal reported.

According to the report, the Bank's Association which headed by Iranian Minister of Economy and Finance Affairs, Ali Tayyebnia has appointed Abdolnaser Hemmati as managing director of the bank.

Hemmati who is a member of reformist Executives of Construction Party served as managing director of the Sina Bank since 2007.

He also previously held the post of head of the Central Insurance Center of Iran (Bimeh Markazi).

Heydari was appointed as Bank Melli Iran's head in 2011, after previous director Mahmoud Reza Khavari escaped to Canada due to a $2.8 billion bank embezzlement case.

In February, Interpol has announced an international search for Khavari due to Iran's request. The embezzlement case originally started back in 2007 by Amir Mansour Arya Investment Company and progressed in 2010, after some Iranian major banks, including Bank Saderat and Bank Melli, issued loans for the company.

Iranian officials say that the case involved the use of fraudulent documents to obtain credit for this investment company, one of the country's top financial institutions. The company used them to purchase assets such as state-owned companies.
