Currently, the port of Turkmenbashi is becoming a key point of the vast logistics systems, turning gradually into a modern port of the third generation, an analytical writing from the Institute of Strategic Planning and Economic Development under Turkmenistan's Ministry of Economy said.

"Turkmenbashi international seaport is gradually being re-equipped for safety and efficiency of navigation and cargo transportation, as well as protection of the environment," the message said.

Thus, the control of the ships' movement within the port's water area, stevedore services in all areas will be managed in real-time through automated systems and electronic technologies.

It is expected that four 'ship-to-shore' type berth loaders with the capacity of 25 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) per hour will operate in the Container terminal.

Container Freight Station with the 50 TEU per day will be built at the terminal. Its functions will include grouping of cargos on the destinations.

The container terminal will be equipped with a satellite monitoring system able to show all current information on the operators' monitors, designed in accordance with the CTQI (Container Terminal Quality Indicator) standard.

The analytical material says that, bio cleaning equipment will be installed in each terminal in order to preserve the Caspian Sea's environment. The project is designed in accordance with Greenport international standard.

Turkmenistan's participation in the transcontinental corridors will contribute to the development of maritime trade and provide stable external economic relations with proper transportation of goods in priority directions and on favourable terms, Turkmenistan's Ministry of Economy said.

Reconstruction of the Turkmenbashi port will significantly increase the volume of cargo transportation through the port, by the creation of specialized berths, equipped with the productive material loading-unloading technology, covered warehouse, warehouse areas with modern covers, developed railway and motor road infrastructure.

In August, it was reported that in line with the results of the international tender, the Turkish Gap Insaat will build a modern seaport in Turkmenbashi city on the Caspian Sea by 2017, which also includes ship repair and shipbuilding yard. The project's cost is estimated at $2 billion.

On the Caspian Sea, Turkmenistan borders with Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Iran. In recent years, regional transport projects have intensified there.

Upgraded large-capacity vessels of the Turkmen trade fleet are actively involved in Caspian cargo transportation, serving international routes from Turkmenbashi to other Caspian ports.

They are expanding the geography and variety of the goods transported.
