Iran imports from India up 151 percent

Iran imported $1.937 billion worth of goods from India in the first six months of the current Iranian calendar year, which started on March 21.

The figure shows 151 percent increase compared to the first half of the previous calendar year, the IRNA News Agency reported.

The country also imported $4.006 billion, $3.742 billion, $1.744 billion, and $1.742 billion worth of goods from the United Arab Emirates, China, South Korea, and Turkey, respectively, in the mentioned period, which is 26, 3, 27, and 33 per cent less than the same period of time previous year.

Iran exported 17.972 billion dollars worth of non-oil goods (including gas condensates) in the first six months of the current Iranian calendar year, the country's Customs Administration reported.

Iran's exports faced 9.41 percent increase in terms of weight, while it showed 13.59 percent decrease in terms of value, the Fars News Agency reported.

The exports of gas condensates and petrochemicals accounted for $3.385 billion and $4.841 billion of the mentioned amount, respectively.

Iran's exports to India and China increased by 155 and 18 per cent, respectively, in the mentioned period.

It is while the county's exports to Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan and other countries decreased by 3, 33, 11, and 18 per cent, respectively.

Iran's trade balance with 89 countries was positive during the mentioned period.

Iran also imported 13.241 million tons of goods worth 19.935 billion dollars in the first half of the current year.

Deputy Director of the Trade Promotion Organisation of Iran, Kioumars Fathollah Kermanshahi said on Septeber 27 that Iran will not be able to achieve the previously-set goal of 59 billion dollars for exports in the current Iranian calendar year (to end March 20, 2014).

"Iran plans to export $41 billion worth of goods and $18 billion worth of technical and engineering services in the current year," the ISNA News Agency quoted Kermanshahi as saying.

Former Director of the Trade Promotion Organisation of Iran Hamid Safdel said on September 22 that Iran's non-oil exports will rise in the second half of the current Iranian calendar year.
