Tehran hosts ECO meeting to create common power market

A meeting with the theme of creating a common power market among member states of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) opened today in Tehran, IRIB reported.

Representatives from Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Iran participated.

The two-day event will discuss ways to reach a consensus on creating a common power market in the region.

ECO is an intergovernmental regional organisation established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey. It delivers a platform for the promotion of economic, technical and cultural cooperation among the member states.

The organisation was expanded in 1992 by accepting Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
