Azerbaijan to complete implementation of first phase of large transport project in spring 2014

The work within the first phase of construction of the new international trade seaport in Alat village (in 65 kilometers to the South from Baku) is planned to be completed in May 2014.

By Emil Ismayilov - Trend: The work within the first phase of construction of the new international trade seaport in Alat village (in 65 kilometers to the South from Baku) is planned to be completed in May 2014, a source at Azerbaijan's Transport Ministry told Trend on Nov.8.

According to the source, the construction of the port continues and the major part of the work has been completed.

"On one parameter, about 80 percent and on another parameter some 70 percent of the work has been completed. But in general, the work within the first phase is planned to be completed in May 2014," the source said.

Earlier, Azerbaijani Minister of Transport Ziya Mammadov said that, the ferry terminal and the whole road system of the new sea port will be commissioned in 2014. The construction of the dry-cargo terminal will be completed in the new port in 2015.

The construction of the new international port began in Azerbaijan in November 2010.
Construction of the new international sea port in Alat settlement is carried out in three stages. The first stage envisages the construction of two ferry and three cargo berths for receiving containers, ro-ro type ships and simple (universal) dry-cargo ships. The second stage of the project includes the construction of three more cargo berths, the third - the construction of an additional two cargo berths. The port will be able to receive up to 11.6 million tons of cargo a year.
