Turkey and Kurdistan autonomous region in northern Iraq resumed the negotiations on the establishment of a free economic zone, Sabah newspaper reported today.

According to the newspaper, the agreement on the establishment of a free economic zone will be signed by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and head of Kurdistan autonomous region in northern Iraq Massoud Barzani during their joint visit to the Turkish province of Diyarbakir.

The free economic zone will be established in Erbil (Iraq), the newspaper said.

Turkey and Kurdistan autonomous region in northern Iraq have been negotiating the establishment of a free economic zone since 2008. But the actions of terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in the region hampered the free economic zone establishment.

The militants of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party began to leave the territory of Turkey on May 8, 2013 after imprisoned PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan called on members of the organization to lay down arms and leave the territory of Turkey.
