The international reserves of the Georgian National Bank have decreased by $256.9 million in January 2014.

The international reserves of the Georgian National Bank have decreased by $256.9 million in January 2014. As of January 31, 2014, the bank's international reserves totaled $2.566.5 billion, Georgian National Bank told Trend.

This is a result of the measures taken by the country's National Bank to maintain the exchange rate of the national currency, lari at the same level, as well as intervention in the exchange, according to experts.

The exchange rate of lari decreased from 1.64 lari for $1 to 1.78 lari in the last two months. The policy pursued by Georgian Central Bank allowed decreasing this figure to 1.73 lari for $1 in January.

The international reserves of Georgian National Bank in the national currency amounted to $2.342.4 billion, including securities - $1.664.3 billion, in the accounts of foreign banks and the IMF - $678.1 million during the reporting period. The amount of funds placed in the SDR, amounted to $224.1 million, and the reserve position in the IMF - $15.3 million
