Uzbek Almatyk complex to complete six investment projects in 2014

Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex of Uzbekistan (AMMC) in the city of Almalyk in Tashkent province will complete the implementation of a total $271.97 million worth of six investment projects.

Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex of Uzbekistan (AMMC) in the city of Almalyk in Tashkent province will complete the implementation of a total $271.97 million worth of six investment projects, a representative of the complex told Trend.

The projects are financed with AMMC equity and loans from Uzbekistan's Reconstruction and Development Fund and local banks.

It is planned to complete the construction of four new projects worth $221.88, as well as the modernisation and reconstruction of current facilities totalling $50.09 million by the end of the year.

AMMC intends to commission a cement plant at a projected cost of $114.18 million in March. The plant's designed capacity will be 350,000 tons of white cement and 760,000 tons of Portland cement. The construction is being carried out by Turkish Dal Teknik Makina Ticaret Ve Sanayi A.S.

In September, along with Chinese companies it is planned to commission a factory producing sanitary products totalling $7.5 million and a designed capacity of 1.2 million mixers of shut-off armature per year.

The construction of a new sulphuric acid workshop at a copper smelting plant ($72.23 million) with a capacity of 500,000 tons of sulphuric acid per year will be completed in October. The contract for the construction of the technological part was signed with the German firm Outotec GmbH.

In November, it is planned to complete the construction of an underground mine at the Kairagach gold ore deposit with a capacity of 80,000 tons of ore per year. The project's cost is $72.23 million.

The technical retooling of an oxygen plant and reconstruction of a zinc plant will be completed by the end of the year. The first project worth $24.4 million is being implemented by the U.S. Red Mountain Energy Corp. and the second project worth of $25.69 million by British Worldwide Integro LLP.

Almalyk MMC is the only copper producer in Uzbekistan and develops copper-molybdenum fields and lead-zinc ores near Almalyk. The enterprise produces refined copper (cathode), zinc metal, lead concentrate and other products. Almalyk MMC accounts for 90 percent of silver and 20 percent of gold production in the country.
