About 1.456 million tonnes of crude steel has been produced in Iran during the one-month period from March 20 to April 20.

The figure shows a 15 percent increase compared to the same period last year, Iran's official IRNA News Agency reported on May 19.

Iranian state-run and private steel producer companies produced about 1.5 million tonnes of various steel products including beam, wide sheets, hot rolled sheets, galvanized steel and tubes during the one-month period of the current year, which is 11 percent more compared to the same period of preceding year.

Mobarakeh Steel Company, Khouzestan Steel Company and Esfahan Steel Company with 505,248 tonnes, 281,256 tonnes, and 254,103 tonnes respectively, were the main producers of steel ingots in Iran during the period.

Iran's crude steel production reached 15.421 million tonnes in 2013, which is 6.6 percent more than its preceding year.

The country was the world's 15th biggest producer of steel in 2013. Iran plans to increase its annual steel output to 55 million tonnes by the end of the Fifth Five-Year Development Plan (2015).
