Around 886 settlements in Turkey have been provided with mobile communication, Turkish Anadolu agency quoted the country's Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, Lutfi Elvan as saying on May 23.

Elvan went on to add that this project was worked out a year ago.

The minister stressed that gradually, all the settlements which lack the mobile communication, will be provided with mobile and fiber-optic communication.

The coverage of mobile communication in Turkey is 99 percent. To date, some 1,800 settlements of the country haven't been provided with mobile and fiber-optic communication. This is related to their unfavorable geographical location.

Some 47 mobile operators have been officially registered in Turkey and three of them - Avea, Turkcell and Vodafone - currently operate in the country.

Around 52.4 percent of the mobile communication users fall to Turkcell, 27.9 percent - Vodafone and 19.7 percent - Avea.
