Chinese company to produce 100,000 cars annually in Iran by 2020

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: A Chinese company plans to manufacture 100,000 cars in Iran by 2020 annually.

Aboutaleb Kiyaeeha, Deputy Director of Iran's Diyar Khodro car manufacturing company, said China's BAIC Company plans to establish a car manufacturing plant in Iran in a joint venture with Diyar Khodro, Iran's Fars news agency reported on June 11.

BAIC has agreed to establish three car plants by 2020 in the country, he added.

Some 135,901 cars have been produced in Iran in the first two months of the current calendar year (March 21 - May 20).

The figure shows a 92.5 percent increase compared to the same period of time previous year, Iran's IRNA News Agency reported on June 2.

Sedan cars accounted for 115,589 percent of the mentioned amount, some 92.3 percent more than previous year.

Iran also produced 19,332 pick-up trucks, 955 trucks, 17 buses, and eight minibuses in the mentioned period.

Iran produced 989,110 cars in 2012, which made the country Asia's eighth largest car manufacturer, and world's 18th.

China, Japan, South Korea, India, Thailand, Turkey, and Indonesia were Asia's seven largest car manufacturers.
