Azerbaijan prepares for commercialization of satellite frequencies

"Azerkosmos" OJSC has announced tender for procurement of external legal consulting services for drawing up contracts, which will govern the joint operation of the orbital position of the Azerspace-2 satellite, technical and other forms of cooperation at the stage of designing and on-orbit operation, as well as commercialization of satellite frequencies.

"Azerkosmos" OJSC has announced tender for procurement of external legal consulting services for drawing up contracts, which will govern the joint operation of the orbital position of the Azerspace-2 satellite, technical and other forms of cooperation at the stage of designing and on-orbit operation, as well as commercialization of satellite frequencies.

The announcement about the tender was published in the official media on August 1.
Application for participation in the tender and other documents should be submitted within at least seven working days prior to the tender procedure. The tender bids [in validity for 60 days] and bank guarantee should be submitted until 18:00 local time on August 28, 2014. The bank guarantee, which should be valid until December 10, 2014, is set at one percent of the tender offer.

The consulting services scheduled for the end of 2014.

Tender participation cost is $500. The tender procedure will start at 16:00 local time on August 29 in the building of "Azerkosmos" OJSC at the address: Baku, AZ 1000, U.Hajibeyov str., 72.

"Azerkosmos" OJSC is the sole satellite operator in the South Caucasus region. The company offers satellite services with the help of "Azerspace-1" telecommunication satellite.

Azerbaijan launched the first telecommunications satellite Azerspace-1 on February 8, 2013. The satellite is designed to provide digital TV, data transmission services, the creation of multi-service VSAT networks and to ensure government communications. Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia and North Africa are included in the service area of Azerspace/Africasat-1a.

The second Azerbaijan Azerspace-2 telecommunication satellite is planned to be launched in 2017. The winner of the tender for construction of law-orbit satellite will be announced in the near future. The construction of the satellite will take 30 months. The tender involves six companies.

At present, Azercosmos OJSC is also summarizing the results of a tender for the construction of a universal ground station for receiving the Earth surface images from the satellites flying over this region.

A universal ground station equipped with a radar system with Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) will render the optical satellite services.

The Azerbaijani satellite operator is preparing a business plan for using the space radar and optical images in Azerbaijan and in the markets of regional countries.
