Baku, Azerbaijan, August 6
By Emin Aliyev, Huseyn Valiyev - Trend:

Iran has agreed on the expansion of the operation mode of the Bilasuvar border checkpoint (from the Iranian side - Julfa) to facilitate the crossing of passengers.

This is stated in the text of the protocol signed following the ninth meeting of the bilateral intergovernmental commission on trade-economic and humanitarian cooperation held in Baku on August 6.

Thus, Iran has expressed readiness to expand operation of the checkpoints on all days of the week except Friday (only day off of the week in the Islamic Republic).

"The possibility of similar measures on Fridays will be discussed with the relevant agencies, after which the Iranian side will inform the Azerbaijani colleagues," the document said.

The Azerbaijani side, in turn, proposed to consider the possibility of transferring "Bilasuvar - Julfa" bordercheck point into 24-hour operation for the entire week.

Azerbaijan will also consider the proposal of the Iranian side on the expansion of the volume and dimensions of vehicles entering the territory of the Islamic Republic.

"The Iranian side will be informed about the development of the situation after consultation with the relevant agencies of Azerbaijan," the document said.
