Cargo transportation via TRACECA Azerbaijani segment decreases

The Eurasian transport corridor (TRACECA, the Europe-Caucasus-Asia) transported 33.5 million metric tons of cargo through the territory of Azerbaijan in January-July 2014 compared to 34.1 million metric tons in January-July 2013, says the report of the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.

Around 50 percent of the total volume of transported goods accounted for vehicles, 34.1 percent - trains and 15.9 percent - ships, the report says.

Around 178.2 million people (7.6 percent more than in the same period of 2013) were transported through the corridor in January-July.

The revenues from transportation of goods via the corridor for this period amounted to 289.6 million AZN or 9 percent more than in January-July 2013. The revenues from passenger transportation amounted to 62.5 million AZN in January-July or 12.8 percent more than in the same period of last year.

In 2013, the Azerbaijani segment of the corridor transported 59 million metric tons of cargo or 3.8 percent more than in 2012. Some 285.2 million people were transported within the corridor last year or 9.3 percent more than in 2012.

The revenues from transportation of goods within the corridor in 2013 amounted to 476.4 million AZN or 7.5 percent more than in 2012. The revenues from passenger transportation last year amounted to 106.5 million AZN, which is 15.8 percent more than in 2012.

TRACECA is an international cooperation program in the field of transport between the EU and partner countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. The organization has a permanent secretariat in Baku.

TRACECA member states are Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Iran.

The official exchange rate is 0.7843 AZN/USD on Sept. 17.
