Foreign investments in Azerbaijan's economy increase by 18 percent

The total volume of foreign investments in Azerbaijan's economy amounted to 3.092 billion AZN in January-August 2014 which is 17.9 percent more than in the same period of last year, according to the State Statistics Committee's report.

Some 79.9 percent (over 2.4 million AZN) of investments made in Azerbaijan's economy by the foreign countries and international organizations accounted for investors from the UK, Norway, USA, Turkey, Japan and France in January-August 2014, the report said.

The UK continues to maintain its leading position, its specific weight was 32.1 percent in the total foreign investments and the amount of the investments - 991.350 million AZN.

During this period the Norwegian investments in Azerbaijan's economy amounted to 563.252 million AZN (with specific weight of 18.2 percent), United States - 264.048 million AZN (8.6 percent), Turkey - 276.559 million AZN (8.9 percent), Japan - 179.087 million AZN (5.8 percent), France - 195.515 million AZN (6.3 percent).

The largest amount of investments among the international financial institutions was allocated by the World Bank (WB) - 83.25 million AZN - with weight of 2.7 percent. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) spent over 34.6 million AZN (1.1 percent), EBRD - 3.2 million AZN (0.1 percent) to the projects in Azerbaijan during January-August.

The official exchange rate is 0.7843 AZN/USD on Sept. 17.
