By Huseyn Veliyev - Trend:

One of the world's main providers - Swedish Telia International Carrier Company expressed its willingness to participate in the construction of the Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM), the president of Azercell (mobile operator in Azerbaijan) Cyril Gaburici told Trend Sept.19.

The largest provider of network services for both traditional and mobile telecom operators, service providers and system integrators TeliaSonera International Carrier is one of the subdivisions of the Telia Sonera Company, which offers transmission services on IP-traffic and voice, as well as the hire of high-speed channels in Europe and America. Services are provided on the basis of its own backbone fiber-optic networks and IP-based networks of Viking Networks.

Telia International Carrier has the most extensive fiber optic network Gaburici said

."The company is interested in participating in the TASIM project, but the Azerbaijani side has not yet submitted its proposals for the request," Gaburici said.

Earlier talks on joining the Scandinavian operator to the project have been carried out at the highest level, where the leadership of TeliaSonera in general expressed a willingness to participate in the project.

TeliaSonera is currently overseeing the implementation of the TASIM project through KazTransCom, as the Swedish-Finnish Corporation has a minority stake in the company, executive director for infrastructure projects of Kazakh Company KazTransCom Alexander Kislitsyn told Trend earlier. The TASIM project will have advantage when the line can get access to the networks of Tier1class, and TeliaSonera network can act as this platform, Kislitsyn said.

The TASIM project includes Russia (Rostelecom), Kazakhstan (KazTransCom), Turkey (TurkTelecom), China (China Telecom), and Azerbaijan (represented by the Center for International Relations and Calculations of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies).

The cost of the project is estimated at $100 million in accordance with the preliminary estimates. It can be adjusted after certain aspects are approved.

Investments will be distributed equally between the project participants.

The construction work is projected to begin in 2016. The project is aimed at reducing poverty, and accelerating economic growth.

It may also play a leading role in regional development.

The project's realization will help to address the "information gap" between Western Europe and the Pacific Basin.
