Azerbaijan's state budget surplus decreases 25 percent

In January-August 2014, actual revenues to the state budget of Azerbaijan totaled 12.407 billion AZN (31.7 percent of GDP), or 3.7 percent less compared to the same period of last year, the Azerbaijani government told Trend Oct.1.

State budget expenditures decreased by 1.3 percent and amounted to 11.469 billion AZN (29.3 percent of GDP). The budget surplus for January-August amounted to 938.4 million AZN or 2.4 percent of GDP.

In the structure of revenues, 39 percent (4.845 billion AZN) were ensured through the Ministry of Taxes. Revenues from customs duties and taxes totaled 1001.4 million AZN (with a weight of 8.1 percent), through other sources - 6.561 billion AZN (52.9 percent). Tax collections increased by 8 percent, customs charges - by 12.8 percent, and revenue from other sources decreased by 12.7 percent compared to January-August 2013.

During the reporting period, some 1.998 billion AZN were transferred to the state budget from the value added tax, which is 16.1 percent of total income, profit taxes totaled 1.644 billion AZN (13.3 percent), income tax - 624.7 million AZN ( 5 percent), excise tax - 555.4 million AZN (4.5 percent), property tax - 92.1 million AZN (0.7 percent), land tax - 26.7 million AZN (0.2 percent), tax on mineral resources - 84.7 million AZN (0.7 percent), taxes on foreign economic activity - 496.9 million AZN (4 percent).

Some 1.290 billion AZN (with a weight of 11.2 percent) from the budget were spent for social security and protection of the population in January-August, 873.2 million AZN (7.6 percent) - for education, 401.6 million AZN (3.5 percent) - health care, 655 million AZN (5.7 percent) - maintenance of the prosecution, security, law enforcement, judicial bodies, 5.030.5 million AZN (43.9 percent) - investments in the economy.

Around 21.9 percent (2.489.8 billion AZN) of public expenditure were spent on payment of salaries, pensions and benefits.

Revenues of the state budget for 2014 were estimated at 18.384 billion AZN, expenses - 20.063 billion AZN.
