The first Kazakh-British political consultations were held in London as part of the implementation of the Joint Statement on Strategic Partnership between Kazakhstan and Great Britain, the Kazakh foreign ministry said Oct. 8.

A Kazakh delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Volkov, while the British side - by foreign office political director Simon Gass.

During the meeting, the sides discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda.

Special attention was paid to the expansion of cooperation in political, trade-economic and legal spheres. In particular, the Kazakh side stressed the need to liberalize the visa regime between the two countries. This will help strengthen trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian ties.

The British side welcomed the ratification of the agreement on transit of Great Britain's military equipment through Kazakhstan. It also appreciated Kazakhstan's contribution to the common efforts aimed at stabilization and economic restoration of Afghanistan.

Following the meeting, the sides agreed to regularly hold political consultations. Further consultations are expected to be held in Astana in 2015.
