Oil transportation via BTC increases

Around 21.84 million metric tons of oil was transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline in January-September 2014, versus 22.55 million metric tons in the same period of 2013, SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) company said in its report.

BTC transported some 29.7 million metric tons of oil in 2013, versus 29.67 million metric tons in 2012.

As of October 1, 2014, some 257.16 million metric tons of oil have been transported since the beginning of work of the pipeline.

The report said that some 22.13 million metric tons of oil were transported to the world markets from the Turkish port of Ceyhan in January-September, compared to 21.94 million metric tons in January-September 2013.

Some 29.2 million metric tons of oil were transported to the world markets from the Turkish port of Ceyhan in 2013 compared to 29.3 million metric tons in 2012.

As of October 1, 2014, some 255.27 million metric tons of Azerbaijani oil have been transported to the world markets from Ceyhan port since the beginning of work of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline.

The total length of the BТС is 1,768 kilometers including a 443 kilometer long section running through Azerbaijan, a 249 kilometer long section in Georgia and a 1,076 kilometer long section in Turkey. The construction of the pipeline started in April 2003. It was filled with oil on May 18, 2005.

BTC Co. shareholders are: BP (30.1 percent), AzBTC (25 percent), Chevron (8.9 percent), Statoil (8.71 percent), ТРАО (6.53 percent), Eni (5 percent), Total (5 percent), Itochu (3.4 percent), Inpex (2.5 percent), ConocoPhillips (2.5 percent) and ONGC (2.36 percent).
