By Daniyar Mukhtarov - Trend:

KazTransOil Kazakh company is implementing a project to expand its terminal in the Georgian port of Batumi, said director general of KazTransOil JSC Kayrgeldy Kabildin at a briefing in central communications service under the president of Kazakhstan in Astana.

"At the moment we implement a project on the Batumi terminal in order to increase its capacity to 2.5 million metric tons on general cargo other than oil," he said, without naming the cost of the project.

Director general said that Kazakhstan, remaining true to the policy of diversification, develops the Aktau-Baku-Batumi corridor.

Kazakhstan today transits its oil through Russia via Transneft JSC pipelines systems and the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC).

"In accordance with the agreement on transit, which was signed between the two countries and is valid until 2025-2027, and also according to documents in the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, we are entitled to unlimited access to the existing facilities on the territory of the Union member countries," said Kabildin.

He said that Kazakhstan transports oil through Russia to the Baltic and Black Sea, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe.

In addition, another important area of Kazakh oil exports is China. In 2013, Kazakhstan completed capacity increase in the Kazakhstan-China pipeline system in the area Atasu-Alashankou to the design capacity of 20 million metric tons per year.

Batumi container terminal is the third largest terminal of the Black Sea. KazTransOil acquired the right for long-term management of Batumi sea port and oil terminal in February 2008 through its subsidiary Batumi Industrial Holdings Limited.

Since November 2007, Piers No 4, 5 and 6 of the Batumi container terminal with berthing facilities for ferry maintenance were leased until 2055 to Batumi International Container Terminal LLC, which is a subsidiary of the corporation International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI).
