A transport energy efficiency program will be worked out in Kazakhstan, Deputy Minister of Energy Uzakbai Karabalin said at a briefing in the Central Communication Service Oct. 21.

"The Energy Ministry together with the concerned state agencies will work out a transport energy efficiency program in 2015," he said. "Its implementation will modernize the car fleet of the country, reduce the consumption of petroleum products in favor of liquefied natural gas, increase the number of cars with small engines, as well as improve the environmental situation in the country."

"Kazakhstan has significant potential of reducing energy consumption," Karabalin said.

"The technical potential for energy efficiency in the country is estimated at 27 percent of the total consumption of primary energy resources," he said. "This amounts to some 62 million metric tons of oil equivalent, including 10 million metric tons - due to transport."
