The SOCAR Company (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) plans to step up efforts to expand the network of petrol stations (gas stations) in Azerbaijan in 2015, a source in SOCAR told Trend.

The source said at present, the issue of construction of gas stations in the districts, in particular in Gazagh (toward Georgia), Lankaran (toward Iran), etc. is being considered now.

"Elaboration on the opening of new stations continues and the most advantageous location for the gas station from an economic point of view is being identified," said the source. "It is difficult to talk about the exact number now, the most important thing is to find land for the construction of new stations. Works in this direction will be activated in 2015 with a high probability."

Works on major trunk road schemes are underway for this purpose, according to the source.

Also, work on creation of mini-stations will be continued in the future as well.

Some 16 petrol stations of SOCAR currently operate in the territory of Azerbaijan, two of which are located in the north of the country, and the rest in Baku.

SOCAR is the only oil producer in Azerbaijan (it has two refineries on its balance), and also owns petrol stations in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Romania and Switzerland.

In January-September 2014, SOCAR produced around 3.56 million metric tons of the main petroleum products compared to more than 3.82 million metric tons in 2013. In total Azerbaijan produced 5.09 million metric tons of the main petroleum products in 2013.
