Azerbaijan to receive domestic passenger ships

"Azerbaijan Caspian Sea Shipping Company" CJSC will receive three passenger ships in the first half of 2016. "Baku Shipyard" LLC is involved in their construction, Azerbaijan Caspian Sea Shipping Company's representative told Trend Nov. 1.

The shipyard received an order for the construction of three passenger vessels with a capacity of 80 people each in May 2014. Metal casings for new vessels have been cut this month.

"The vessels must be delivered to the customer within 18 months in accordance with the contract and taking into account the entire work," the representative said.

"This period covers the construction work and trials of new vessels, the representative said.

The cost of each passenger vessel is estimated at about 8.5 million AZN, Baku Shipyard deputy general director Imamverdi Hasanov said earlier.

The length of a vessel with a capacity of 80 people will be 38.22 meters, width - 8.2 meters, depth - 4.18 meters, draft - 2.25 meters. The speed of new vessels will be 20 knots. This will allow passengers quickly get to their destination. Moreover, the carrying capacity of 50 metric tons is a positive technical index of passenger ships.

"Baku Shipyard" LLC - a joint venture of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan), Azerbaijan Investment Company (AIC) and "Keppel Offshore & Marine" was commissioned in September 2013.
