Afghanistan is increasing the number of channels broadcasted via the Azerspace-1 Azerbaijani satellite, a source on the telecommunications market of Azerbaijan told Trend Nov.3.

For example, the "1TV Afghanistan" channel has been included into the broadcast package. The Afghan Batur TV channel is also currently available for free, said the source.
Cooperation in the field of satellite broadcasting is carried out in accordance with the previously signed agreement between the satellite operator of Azerbaijan (Azerkosmos JSC) and the Afghanistan's "Paiwastoon" company, which specializes in software and mobile app development, off-grid communication solutions, and ICT research.

Azerkosmos OJSC is the sole satellite operator in the South Caucasus region. The company provides satellite resources for rendering telecommunication services and digital broadcasting, VSAT networks.

Currently, the number of TV and radio channels broadcasted via Azerspace-1 satellite exceeds 120. Azerbaijan cooperates in satellite broadcasting with Turkey, Ukraine, Georgia, Russia and other countries.

Azerbaijan launched the first telecommunications satellite Azerspace-1 on February 8, 2013. The satellite is located at the orbital position of 46 degrees east longitude. Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia and North Africa are included in the service area of Azerspace/Africasat-1a.
