Azerbaijan assumes chairmanship in BSEC working group on science and technology

The chairmanship in the working group on science and technology of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) passed from Turkey to Azerbaijan, a source on the Azerbaijani telecommunications market told Trend on Nov. 24.

Azerbaijan's chairmanship in the working group covers 2015-2016, a statement says.

Baku will host a meeting of the working group, as well as a ministerial meeting on science and technology in early December.

A BSEC working group on science and technology was established in 1994. Its purpose is to promote joint activity in the BSEC region in the field of science and technology, proceeding from the relevant provisions of the BSEC Charter and other documents, resolutions, recommendations, action plans and declarations.

The Black Sea Economic Cooperation is an intergovernmental organization consisting of 12 countries of the Black Sea and the Southern Balkans. BSEC was founded on May 1, 1999 based on the Treaty on the Black Sea Economic Cooperation dated June 25, 1992. The headquarters of the organization is located in Istanbul. BSEC members are Albania, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Armenia, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine.
