Kazakhstan's Kazatomprom national atomic company intends to increase the use of solar energy in the country, Kazakh Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Vladimir Shkolnik said on Nov.26.

The minister made the remarks during a meeting with the Minister of Economic Affairs of the Netherlands Henk Kamp in Astana.

"We expect that the solar energy, which accounts for the important part of the electricity in the world, will be widely used in Kazakhstan's energy industry," he said.

Shkolnik added that Kazakhstan has all opportunities to expand the use of alternative energy, including the domestically produced solar panels.

The business delegation of the Netherlands included the representative of the companies operating in the renewable energy sphere.

The consortium of Dutch solar companies consists of Eurotron, Royal HaskoningDHV, Lamers High Tech Systems, Tempress and ECN.

"I am on a visit to Kazakhstan with representatives of 20 Dutch companies. All of them hope for the successful work in Kazakhstan," Kamp said, adding that Kazakhstan and the Netherlands actively cooperate in several sectors of the energy industry.

He said Dutch experience in the sphere of energy and renewable energy sources can be successfully used in Kazakhstan which has significant reserve of natural resources.

Working out a road map for the development of joint technologies, creation of infrastructure and production of innovative solar panels in Kazakhstan will be the first step in cooperation between the two countries in developing the alternative energy sphere.
